Mansion Iturbe, located opposite Vasco de Quiroga Square, has remained in our family since the late 18th century. Doña Margarita Arriaga Pierres, a direct descendant of the owners since 1790—Don Francisco de Iturbe y Heriz—was the visionary who decided to give this family heritage a new purpose.
Almost 56 years ago, at just 27 years old, Margarita embarked on a pioneering project: converting the residence into a hotel, introducing the concept of a Boutique Hotel in Pátzcuaro. Her focus was always on female entrepreneurship and supporting the artisan communities of Michoacán.
In the 1980s, Margarita Arriaga founded Galería Iturbe to elevate the popular art of communities like Ocumicho, Capula, and Zinapécuaro.
To ensure this space shined culturally, she had the support of her great friend, the distinguished painter and muralist Francisco Rodríguez Oñate, who, along with painter Marcela Ramírez, coordinated the Gallery. Under Margarita's initiative, they organized exhibitions by the most prominent Michoacán artists during the 90s and 2000s, solidifying the hotel as a cultural reference.
Today, her children continue her work, keeping alive the integrity and values with which she began more than half a century ago. Our guarantee of trust is based on solid pillars:
