The artisanal elegance of the Michoacán Coast.
This burnished clay turtle is a piece of pottery from Cachán de Echeverría, in the municipality of Aquila. Made by Rosa, an artisan woman from that town on the Michoacán coast. Its deep dark brown tone and satin sheen are the result of an ancestral process: burnishing. Without using chemical glazes, the master artisans rub the surface with river stones until the pores of the clay are closed, achieving a silky texture and natural metallic reflections.
Each piece in the Mansion Iturbe Artisans Collection is selected under art curation standards, directly supporting fair trade with the Nahua communities of the Sierra-Costa region.
